My Second Journal Page

Hello everybody

So a couple of weeks ago I had a tentative start to my art journaling journey with a one page creation using stamps and inks and messy stuff.  So for this second journal page....I've taken the plunge on my very first double page spread.  I know....what was I thinking!!!  But I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it so much that I've now created another double page spread that I'll be blogging about later in the week.

So for this double page spread I started off by coating the pages with white gesso even though the Dylusions journals don't need it.  I then used a pale blue acrylic paint and some splashes of blue Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powder in Midnight Blue for the background and then stamped little black circles all over the page and using white acrylic paint made some clouds that I later outlined with a white gel pen.  I printed the words off on my PC and then cut them out and layered them onto the pages and outlined with black Sharpie pen....a friend is one who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.  I like to think that this is true of friendship in general and that nobody minds how mad or crazy you may seem or how different you are to them that they can overlook those differences because they see through them to the proper 'you'.

I had some leftover book pages from some bookfolding I did recently and so stamped on them with the Stamp ME Stamps from Polkadoodles called Daisy Days....  you can get them HERE
I used my Gansai Tambi paints for the flowers and leaves and the butterflies and then stuck them to the page using Gel Matte Medium.

But before I did that I used some dimension paste and a stencil to make the fence....which is very badly broken as you can see, and then when it dried I painted the background between the fence green and the fence itself with some brown Gansai Tambi paint.  The spots on the butterflies are white gel pen and the leaves and flowers too.  The centres of the flowers have been created using black Liquid Pearls.

The edging has been done with a white gel pen.

And here it is:

I love how I managed to stamp the flower on the left over the word 'ART'....totally by chance.

The texture of the fence really shows in this photo.

I'm super chuffed with this art journaling page....and although I'm not strictly a messy crafter I am kind of addicted to creating something which is totally out of my crafting skills and something I'm enjoying immensely too.

I'll be back later in the week with my third art journaling page which is different again and involves having coloured my page using pencils and white gesso for a different look altogether.

It's Digi Choosday Day - Week 30 - ANYTHING GOES

Hello everybody

It’s Digi Choosday day again.

This week our challenge is ‘ANYTHING GOES'.
We hope  that many more of you enter and look forward to seeing lots of your marvelous entries.

AND also this week there's something special from me as well....scroll to the bottom to see.

So, my make this week is the first of my creations using the fabulous new Meribelle Mermaid digis and combining her with the wonderful Starfish and Sandcastles collection I have made my very first shaker card.  The papers, and the lighthouse and the yacht and sentiment that I've cut in bubble speech from Serif Craft Artist are from the Starfish and Sandcastles collection but the Meribelle Mermaid is from the Big Kahuna Collection or the special three for two offer called Meribelle Friends.  I've used Serif to make a circle layered decoupage where she goes gradually smaller in size but layered onto top of decreasing circles and then with a frame made from the starfish paper from the Sandcastles collection I've sandwiched acetate in front and decoupaged the fish behind and added some sequins.  The rest of the layers have been added over the top and then my die cuts are some little seagulls that I've cut with kraft card and then edged with a black pen in a faux stitching.  For the edging of the card, I've used the rope from the Serif package as I thought it tied in the whole card.   Full details of what I’ve used can be found in the Thumb Linkies below.

Here is my make for this week’s challenge:

It's Digi Choosday - Week 29 - Flowers

Hello everybody

It’s Digi Choosday day again.

Hope you’re ready to enter another Digi Choosday Challenge.

This week our challenge is ‘FLOWERS ’.

Meribelle Mermaid - 30 digital craft stamp download bundleBefore I show you what I’ve made for this week’s challenge I do hope that you’ve been to the Polkadoodles’ website to get your brand new digis from the MERIBELLE mermaid stuff.  There’s a whole lot of newbies to get your hands on from the very very big kahuna kit containing 10 different digis in black and white and coloured versions and also with black and white digi on a pre-coloured background too!!  And also individual digis in sets of three too.  There’s something for every pocket. She’s uber sweet and has a man in her life as well.  Excellent for all you folk out there that like to colour detailed digis with that flowing hair and excellent fin/tail.  But even if you can’t colour or don’t think your colouring is up to scratch then there’s the pre-coloured versions too.

So, back to the challenge for this week’s Digi Choosday.  For my make this week I have gone back to making my holiday scrapbook and have made a 12 x 12 page from the day we went to Monaco and visited the beautiful church where Princess Grace married.  The gardens opposite were absolutely gorgeous and so these photos form the basis of my scrapbook and I’ve adorned them with decoupaged flowers from the wonderful Magic Garden collection.  I printed off lots of different sized flowers (resized on my graphics package) and lots of leaves too and have decoupaged them around my picture frame which I’ve printed onto backing paper from the collection too.  To decorate the flowers I’ve used Chloe’s Creative Cards black gems and also some butterflies that I bought from the Pound Shop.  The green 12x12 card is from a pack I bought from The Works.

Here is my make for this week’s challenge:

My First Journal Page

Hello everybody

So, I'm here to share with you my very very VERY VERY first foray into the world of art journaling.  Some of my team mates for Polkadoodles are already accomplished art journalists (if that's the correct term) and I've looked at their created pages with envy and thought to myself ,'Oh, I wonder if I could do that?'.....  well guess what....  I've had a bash with my brand new purchase of a Dyan Dylusions Journal.  I stroked the journal for a little while and was a little apprehensive to say the least about getting the pages 'mucky'.  I'm very much a clean crafter and although I've dabbled a little in stamping and inks I prefer the cleaner side of crafting and card making, but after watching a few videos on You Tube and then cracking open my very new stamps from Nikky Hall of Polkadoodles I stamped some beautiful petals from the uber gorgeous Lavender Tea stamp set and then set about colouring them with my Derwent Inktense pencils (my favourite favourite favourite pencils) and then cut them out and layered them in a design I liked ready to put on my page when I was ready.

I then cracked open some of my Cosmic Shimmer acrylic ink sprays and then sprayed one of the pages in my journal after I'd given it a coat of white gesso.  I believe it's not necessary in these journals really, but I wanted to try a new product.

I got a little bit messy with this but never mind.  I then got out my Dreamweavers dimension paste in white (which I've had in my stash for a very long time) and then stenciled the areas I wanted to add dimension to and then spritzed with ink over the top once dry.  I then stamped some of the little stamps from the collection in an ink colour called London Fog around the page and then got my black ink pad and stamped the text 'Oh so pretty' from the collection around the edges of my page. I then glued my flower to the page and scattered some petals around it with gel matt medium.

Oh no, I didn't want to stop there because then I decided to do a wavy edge to the page and then coloured in stripes with my black Sharpie marker and then took my white Uniball Signo pen and did dots around the page and on the pels and leaves.  I then drew around the petals and leaves with my Sharpie pen just to make the flower stand out and then doodled white hearts with my pen in between the sentiment around the edges.

The word 'love' at the bottom of the page I created by sticking some letters to the page and then spritzing ink around them and then peeling off once dry so that it gave a 'ghost' effect and then I drew around it with my Sharpie pen and coloured in stripes.

And voila.....  here is my first page.

I hope you like my first page.  I certainly had sooo much fun creating it and I am thinking about my next page and what I can do with it.

I'd like to enter the following challenges with my page:
